Controversy

Representatives of the SPD and Die Linke protested against the award of the Federal Cross of Merit. The criticism relates, for example, to a state parliament debate in 2000, in which he - as chairman of the constitutional and legal committee - in support of a decision of the conference of justice ministers on the transfer of convicted criminals to their home country said that his sympathy would be limited if a Criminals in his home country "would have chains on their feet at work" or for violations of discipline "received the lashes prescribed in Africa and Asia" . Schimpff later came under fire after the death of the Carinthian governor (Prime Minister) Jörg Haider , whom he described in an obituary as “perhaps the most prominent politician with a German tongue” . His group colleagues then made the " muzzle " given to him when he returned to parliament public. Schimpff caused another sensation during the budget debate in the Saxon state parliament on December 10, 2008, when he wanted to respond to a lengthy series of speeches by the LINKE about the admissibility of the resolution on the budget accompanying law and Steffen Flath , the chairman of his own CDU parliamentary group , with reference to the “ muzzle ” of the microphone.
