Carl Beierkuhnlein

Carl Beierkuhnlein (born June 2, 1960 in Hochstadt am Main ) is a German geoecologist and professor of biogeography at the University of Bayreuth .

Life

Carl Beierkuhnlein studied geoecology . He then worked for the BUND as a research assistant in nature conservation. In 1994 he did his doctorate on the bioindication of acidic catchment areas. In 1999 he completed his habilitation (venia legendi biogeography) on methodological and theoretical questions in biodiversity research. Between 1999 and 2002 Beierkuhnlein was Professor of Landscape Ecology and Site Studies at the University of Rostock . Since 2002 he has held the chair for biogeography at the University of Bayreuth .

From 2007 to 2009 he was a member of the University Council of Bayreuth. From October 2005 to September 2007 he was Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geosciences in Bayreuth. He is the spokesperson for the Global Change Ecology master’s program .

Beierkuhnlein was the spokesman for the research group “Effects of the Climate on Ecosystems and Climatic Adaptation Strategies” (FORKAST) . Until 2014, he headed the Biogeography working group in the Association of Geographers at German Universities (VDGH).

In 2014 he was awarded the Bavarian State Medal for special services to the environment .

In 2019 he was awarded the medal for special services to Bavaria in a United Europe .
