Heinz Badeitz

Heinz Georg Badewitz (born May 26, 1941 in Hof ; † March 10, 2016 in Graz , Austria ) was a German filmmaker and festival director of the Hof International Film Festival .

Life

Heinz Baditz, born and raised in Hof in Upper Franconia, initially trained as a technical draftsman. In 1963 he moved to Munich, where he studied cinematography at the German Institute for Film and Television following an internship in the copy factory of Bavaria Atelier GmbH . From 1965 collected Badewitz first professional experience as a camera assistant and animated film - cameraman . He also started making short films. Since the early 1970s, he has worked as an assistant director, as a recording or production manager in numerous German feature film productions. He was also successful in promoting the awareness of New German Cinema at the Cannes International Film Festival .

Together with Uwe Brandner , he founded the Hof International Film Festival in 1967 . From then on he took over their management. From 1977 to 2010 he curated the German Cinema series as part of the Berlinale .

Baditz died in March 2016 at the age of 74 while visiting the Diagonale in Graz.
