Manuel Sales y Ferré , or Manuel Sales i Ferré , (born August 24, 1843 in Ulldecona , Tarragona province ; † December 10, 1910 in Vinaròs , Castellón province ) was a Spanish sociologist . He held the first sociological chair in Spain ( University Complutense Madrid ) and in 1889 wrote Sociología general, the first systematic treatise on sociology in Spain. It was published posthumously in 1912.

Sales y Ferré endeavored in a strictly positivistic manner to detach sociology from its historical-philosophical components. In his opinion, sociology rises above individual historical facts in order to formulate laws of the social.
