Vinaròs is a city in eastern Spain, on the Costa del Azahar , on the northern border of the province of Castellón , about 160 kilometers north of Valencia . Vinaròs is one of the largest cities in the province and the capital of the Baix Maestrat administrative district. The place is near the mouth of the coastal river Cérvol into the Mediterranean Sea and has an important port.
History
During the wars of Napoleon Bonaparte on the Iberian Peninsula, the French general Musnier defeated the Spaniards near Vinaròs in November 1810.
Culture and sights
The seventeenth-century church of Arxiprestal de l'Assumpció in the city center and the picturesque Ermita de la Mare de Déu de la Misericòrdia i de Sant Sebastià , which is located on a 144 m high hill 5 km west of the village, are worth seeing .
The carnival in Vinaròs is an attraction in the whole area and is organized by the people through carnival clubs. In the Nit del Pijama , everyone in town wears pajamas or pajamas .
