The Comarca Baix Maestrat (Spanish Bajo Maestrazgo ) is located in the province of Castellón in the Autonomous Community of Valencia ( Spain ). The community association has an area of ​​1,221 km² and 83,971 inhabitants.

location

This comarca is located in the extreme northeast of the Valencian Community. It borders in the northeast on the Catalan comarca Montsià and in the north on the Aragonese comarca Matarraña . From north-west to south, the Comarques Els Ports , Alt Maestrat and Plana Alta border in a clockwise direction on the Lower Maestrat, which is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the east . (In addition to the two Valencian maestrats / maestrazgos, there is a third comarca in Aragon called Maestrazgo ).

economy

In agriculture, mainly citrus fruits and artichokes are grown in the coastal plain and olives in the higher inner Maestrat. Tourism is particularly important on the Costa del Azahar .
