Matarraña ( Catalan. Matarranya ) is a comarca ( administrative unit ) of the autonomous region of Aragon in Spain . It is located in the east of the province of Teruel and has 8,682 inhabitants on an area of ​​933 km². Its capital is Valderrobres , the largest of the comarca's 18 municipalities. The comarca bears the name of the river of the same name that flows through it.

The comarca borders in the west on the comarca Bajo Aragón , in the north on Bajo Aragón-Caspe , in the east on the province of Tarragona (comarques Terra Alta , Baix Ebre and Montsià ) and in the south on the province of Castellón (comarques Baix Maestrat and Els Ports ) . Until 2003, Bajo Aragón and Bajo Aragón-Caspe were parts of Matarraña.
