Gúdar-Javalambre is a comarca ( administrative unit ) in the southeast of the province of Teruel in the autonomous region of Aragon in Spain . It has 8,398 inhabitants on an area of ​​2,352 km². The main town is Mora de Rubielos , with 1,553 inhabitants (as of January 2005) the largest of the 24 associated municipalities.

location

The comarca borders in the west and north on the comarca Comunidad de Teruel , in the northeast on the comarca Maestrazgo , in the east on the province of Castellón and in the south on the province of Cuenca . The comarca is bounded by the state expressway ( Autovía ) to the east. This connects the comarca with Valencia in the north. The street system of the comarca branches off from the N-234. A railway line runs parallel to it and the Vía Verde , a tourist trail on the traces of the former mining railway of Ojos Negros . The Mijares river divides the two mountain ranges that make up the comarca, the Sierra de Javalambre and the Sierra de Gúdar , the highest peaks of which are 2,020 and 2,024 meters high. Both are characterized by a significant biodiversity ; in addition, they provide significant parts of the water in the Mijares and Turia rivers .

In addition to Mora de Rubielos, the following municipalities belong to the comarca (the number of inhabitants in brackets in January 2005): Abejuela (65), Albentosa (299), Alcalá de la Selva (499), Arcos de las Salinas (127), Cabra de Mora (115 ), Camarena de la Sierra (159), El Castellar (77), Formiche Alto (202), Fuentes de Rubielos (117), Gúdar (100), Linares de Mora (320), Manzanera (516), Mosqueruela (703) , Nogueruelas (223), Olba (233), La Puebla de Valverde (551), Puertomingalvo (190), Rubielos de Mora (699), San Agustín (142), Sarrión (1,072), Torrijas (86), Valbona (216 ) and Valdelinares (134).

Agriculture

The Gúdar-Javalambre plateau is Europe's largest black truffle growing area .

tourism

In the comarca there are the two ski stations Valdelinares and Javalambre of the Aramón group. Tourism plays an important role for the comarca all year round: in winter through the ski stations and in summer because of the thermal baths and general tourism, especially from the neighboring region of Valencia .

Attractions

Apart from the scenic attractions, the places Rubielos de Mora , Mora de Rubielos and Manzanera are also worth seeing from an architectural point of view.
