The Bajo Martín is a comarca ( administrative unit ) of the autonomous region of Aragon in Spain . It lies in the province of Teruel and also protrudes into the province of Zaragoza . Bajo Martín has 7,383 inhabitants on an area of ​​795 km². Its capital is Híjar , the largest of the nine associated municipalities.

The comarca borders in the west on the Campo de Belchite and Cuencas Mineras , in the north on Ribera Baja del Ebro , in the east on Bajo Aragón and Bajo Aragón-Caspe and in the south on Andorra-Sierra de Arcos .

The associated municipalities are next to Híjar Albalate del Arzobispo , Azaila , Castelnou , Jatiel , La Puebla de Híjar , Samper de Calanda , Urrea de Gaén and Vinaceite .

The economy of the comarca is characterized by agriculture and livestock.

The comarca is best known for the Ruta del tambor y el bombo , which includes the places in the comarca where typical pre-Easter drum processions take place in Lower Aragon. The Comarca's cultural heritage includes the Archbishop's Palace of Albalate and the Virgen de los Arcos sanctuary . There are cave paintings in the Parque Cultural del Río Martín . The Celtic necropolis of Cabezo de Alcalá can be found near Azalaia .
