Campo de Cariñena
The Campo de Cariñena is a comarca ( administrative unit ) of the autonomous region of Aragon in Spain . It is located in the province of Saragossa between the Jalón and Huerva rivers and has an area of 772 km² and 10,501 inhabitants. The capital is Cariñena , also the largest of the 14 municipalities (Spanish: Municipios ) that belong to the comarca.
The Campo de Cariñena is located in the southern center of the province of Saragossa and borders in the west on the Comunidad de Calatayud , in the south on the Campo de Daroca , in the east on the Campo de Belchite and in the north on the Comarcas Valdejalón and Saragossa .
In addition to Cariñena, the municipalities of Aguarón , Aguilón , Aladrén , Alfamen , Cosuenda , Encinacorba , Longares , Mezalocha , Muel , Paniza , Tosos , Villanueva de Huerva and Vistabella belong to the comarca.
In the comarca, viticulture is the most prominent and best-known branch of the economy. Wines with Denominación de Origen ( Denomination of Origin) have been allowed to be sold since 1935 . The area used for viticulture covers 17,908 hectares , on which grapes for around 300,000 hl of wine are grown.
