Bajo Aragon-Caspe
Bajo Aragón-Caspe ( Catalan Baix Aragó-Casp , to German Niederaragonien-Caspe ) is a comarca ( administrative unit ) of the autonomous region of Aragon in Spain . It is located in the southeast of the province of Zaragoza and has 12,604 inhabitants on an area of 997 km². The capital is Caspe , the largest of the six associated municipalities.
history
The comarca originated in 2003 when the original Comarca Matarraña was divided into the Comarcas Matarraña , Bajo Aragón and Bajo Aragón-Caspe.
geography
Bajo Aragón-Caspe borders in the west on the comarcas Ribera Baja del Ebro and Bajo Martín , in the north on the Monegros and Bajo Cinca , in the east on the provinces of Lleida and Tarragona and in the south on the comarcas Matarraña and Bajo Aragón.
In addition to Caspe, the municipalities of Chiprana , Fabara , Fayón , Maella and Nonaspe belong to the comarca.
economy
The economy is characterized by agriculture , especially the cultivation of olives and the extraction of olive oil .
Attractions
In the comarca, between the municipalities of Caspe and Chiprana, there is the reservoir of Mequinenza , which is also called the Sea of Aragon ( mar de Aragón ) because of its size .
languages
Some of the areas of the comarca are bilingual: the municipalities of Fabara, Fayón, Maella and Nonaspe have a mostly bilingual Catalan and Spanish-speaking population. They belong to the so-called Franja de Aragón , the bilingual Catalan-Aragonese border area. The inhabitants of Caspe and Chiprana, on the other hand, mostly only speak the Spanish language ( castellano ).
