The hermitage of Sant Jordi

Fayón ( Catalan : Faió ) is a Spanish municipality in the province of Zaragoza in the Autonomous Region of Aragón . It is located in the Comarca Bajo Aragón-Caspe in the predominantly Catalan-speaking area of ​​the Franja de Aragón west of the confluence of the Rio Matarraña in the Ebro in the Sierra de Mequinenza. On January 1, 2019, the community had 379 inhabitants.

history

Historically, the community is assigned to the Matarraña further south . The parish belonged to the diocese of Lleida until 1955 , since then it has been part of the archdiocese of Saragossa . The old place went down in 1967 in a reservoir of the Ebro ( Pantà de Riba-roja ) and was rebuilt higher up.

Economy and Transport

The railway line from Zaragoza to Móra la Nova (Mora la Nueva) runs south of Fayón .
