history
The place, which was settled before the turn of the century, and whose fertile plains were already used intensively in Roman times, was on the road from Caesaraugusta ( Saragossa ) to Pompaelo ( Pamplona ). In ancient times the city was called Segia (also Segla or Setia ) with a bishopric, to which the titular diocese of Segia goes back.
After the Moorish occupation, it was finally recaptured in 1105 under King Alfonso I (Aragón) and initially developed into a border fortress against the Moors.

Festivals
The central local festival is dedicated to the veneration of the local saint, Nuestra Señora de la Oliva . On June 24th, the festival of the patron saint John the Baptist is celebrated in a medieval way . Another local festival commemorates Election Day on January 14th , an event during the plague , when the townspeople voted to carry the Nuestra Señora de la Oliva around town to worship. Allegedly, the plague in Ejea de los Caballeros is said to have ended that day.
