Fabara ( Catalan Favara de Matarranya or Favara ) is a Spanish municipality in the comarca of Bajo Aragón-Caspe in Aragon . The municipality is located on the Matarraña River .
language
The place is bilingual like the whole of the Franja de Aragón ; The original language is Catalan in the local vernacular of Fabarol, which is influenced by numerous substrates of Aragonese and Castellanisms .
history
Settlement goes back to 5000 BC. BC back. El Roquizal del Rullo is the most important Iron Age settlement in Aragón. The mausoleum of Lucius Emilius Lupo, declared a Monumento nacional in 1931, has been preserved from the time of the Roman conquest .
After the Moorish conquest of the Iberian Peninsula, Berbers from the Hawwara tribe (French: Houara) lived in Fabara, from which the place derives its name. After the Reconquista , the place was under the rule of the Order of Calatrava until 1428 .
economy
Almost half of the resident population (45.3%) works in agriculture (INE 2001).
