Maella is a Spanish municipality in the province of Zaragoza in the autonomous region of Aragón . It is located in the comarca Bajo Aragón-Caspe about 21 km southeast of Caspe on the Rio Matarraña and had 1985 inhabitants on January 1, 2019.
history
At Maella, the Battle of Maella between Carlist and Liberals took place in 1838 .
language
The municipality in the Franja de Aragón is bilingual. The original language is Catalan in its local Aragonese variant called Maellano.

- Town hall (Ayuntamiento) with the clock tower (Torre del Reloj), one of the rare examples of a civil tower in Aragon.
- Ruins of the castle destroyed in the Carlist Wars in 1837.

The cultivation of peaches predominates in the municipality . In addition, olives , cereals and almonds are grown.

Personalities
The sculptor Pablo Gargallo (1881–1934) and the glass artist Antoni Pons i Cirac (1921–1998) come from Maella .
