Biel (formerly Biel-Fuencalderas) is a Spanish municipality in the province of Saragossa in the autonomous region of Aragon . The place belonging to the Comarca Cinco Villas ( Five Small Towns ) is located above the Arba de Biel, one of the headwaters of the Río Arba . The north of the municipality is formed by the Sierra de Santo Domingo, the municipality reaches a height of up to 1,384 m. The municipality includes the town of Fuencalderas.

history

In 1998, prehistoric settlement remains from the eleventh millennium BC were found at the Peña 14 cave, about one kilometer from Biel.

Biel Castle was first built in the time of Sancho III. called in the 11th century. Biel had an important Jewish quarter ( judería ) and by the end of the Middle Ages more than half of the population of Biel was Jewish.
