Princess Valaya Alongkorn , Princess of Phetchaburi ( Thai : สมเด็จ พระ ราช ปิตุจฉา เจ้าฟ้า ว ไลย อลงกรณ์ กรม หลวง เพชรบุรี ราช สิริ น ธร , Somdet Phra Ratcha Pitutcha Chaofa Valaya Alongkorn Kromma Luang Phetchaburi Ratchasirindhorn ; *  April 16, 1884 in Bangkok ; †  February 15 1938 ibid) was a member of the Siamese royal family and aunt of King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) of Thailand, who ruled from 1946 to 2016 .

Princess Valaya Alongkorn was the 43rd daughter of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) and the fifth child of Queen Savang Vadhana , who was one of four main wives of Chulalongkorn. She received the name ว ไลย อลงกรณ์ น ริน ทร เทพ ย กุมารี from her father . The current King of Thailand descends from her younger brother, Prince Mahidol Adulyadej (Prince of Songkhla). At the age of three she was placed by her mother in the care of Queen Saovabha Phongsri , who had previously lost two daughters and who shortly afterwards adopted Valaya Alongkorn. She was then trained in the royal Kumari school. In 1896 she accompanied her father along with other princesses on his trip to Java , Singapore and Malaya . At the beginning of the 20th century, she moved to the Dusit Palace with her father . After his death, she lived with her stepmother in the Phayathai Palace.

Valaya Alongkorn was an avid reader from an early age. She also loved handicrafts, such as knitting and making pearl necklaces.

On November 11, 1911, King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) bestowed her the title of Princess of Phetchaburi and Kromma Luang , the third highest nobility of Siam.

Later time

After Queen Saovabha Phongsri died on October 20, 1919, Valaya Alongkorn moved to the Suan Sunandha royal villa on the grounds of Dusit Palace. A year later she got lung disease and went to Europe for treatment. On her return, she lived with Queen Savang Vadhana in the Srapathum Palace, but she had to be treated frequently for complaints.

On February 15, 1938, Princess Valaya Alongkorn died of lung cancer in Bangkok.

The Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University is named after the princess.
