Savang Vadhana was the 27th daughter of King Mongkut (Rama IV) and his wife Piam, which is why she was a half-sister of her future husband. She was the second of four main wives of Ramas V. The marriage had eight children:

  • Crown Prince Maha Vajirunhis (June 27, 1878 - January 4, 1894)
  • Prince Isariyalongkorn (September 4, 1879 - September 25, 1879)
  • Princess Vichitra Chiraprabha (* April 21, 1881 - August 15, 1881)
  • Prince Somratiwongse Varodaya (Prince of Nakhon Si Thammarat; * June 9, 1882, † June 17, 1899)
  • Princess Valaya Alongkorn (Princess of Phetchaburi; April 16, 1884 - February 15, 1938)
  • Princess Sirabhorn Sobhon (July 19, 1888 - May 24, 1898)
  • Prince Mahidol Adulyadej (Prince of Songkhla; born January 1, 1892 in Bangkok ; † September 24, 1929 there)
  • a princess with no name (died 3 days after giving birth)

After King Prajadipok abdicated in 1935, the son of Queen Savang Vadhana's youngest son succeeded him as Ananda Mahidol . His successor since 1946, King Bhumibol Adulyadej , is a grandson of Queen Savang Vadhana. Although her own son, Crown Prince Vajirunhis, died early, she lived long enough to see her two grandchildren on the Siamese (later Thai) throne.
