Johann Adam Lehmus

Johann Adam Lehmus (born January 2, 1707 in Rothenburg ob der Tauber , † February 13, 1788 there ) was a poet of numerous sacred songs.

Lehmus' songs first appeared in three collections: “David's Psalter”, “Jesus in more than 100 songs” and so on, “Jesus in 365 Odes”, which were published in Rothenburg in 1762, 1766 and 1771.

Johann Adam Lehmus was born on January 2, 1707 in Rothenburg ob der Tauber. The family immigrated to Rothenburg from Breslau at the beginning of the 17th century and was called Lehms at that time. He studied theology in Jena under Johann Franz Buddeus .

His descendants include the mathematician Ludolph Lehmus (grandson), pastor Friedrich Lehmus (great grandson) and his daughter the doctor Emilie Lehmus .
