The Nixa Record Company Ltd. was a British record label .

General

Nixa was the second record company after Decca to release LPs in the UK . At the time, the major competitor EMI still preferred the 45 min −1 single format to the 33 min −1 LP format.

history

The company was founded in 1950 by New Zealand businessman Hilton Nixon. The Nixa label was partly bought by Pye Radio in 1953 and merged with Polygon Records in 1955 after purchasing it and renamed it Pye Nixa. Since 1987, the name Nixa has been used again by PRT Records .

repertoire

Nixa Records mainly brought the artist catalog of the Compagnie Général du Disque in Paris to the countries of the Commonwealth of Nations . Among the artists were Dany Dauberson, André Claveau and other cabaret and jazz artists from Europe. The shellac records were pressed for Nixa at Decca. Nixa later acquired licenses for various classic US labels such as Period Records, Concert Hall Records, Haydn Society and Vanguard Records to market them in the UK and the Commonwealth. Nixa also made her own recordings in England.

Pye Nixa's main artist was Petula Clark , who published on the label from 1955 to 1962, in both English and French. Many of her recordings for Pye Nixa became top ten hits in both the UK and France.
