Polygon Records

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Polygon Records was one of the first independent record companies in the UK .

The label was founded in 1949 by Alan A. Freeman and Leslie Clark as Polygon Record Company Ltd. founded. Above all, Leslie wanted to bring the distribution for the recordings of his daughter Petula Clark under her own control. Freeman and Clark opened an office in Grosvenor Place in London's Sloane Square and arranged Petula's first music recording with Ron Goodwin and his orchestra and the singing combo The Stargazers in the background.

Since Polygon had not yet had its own distribution, the first 78-min −1 single from Petula ( You Go to My Head with the B-side Out of a Clear Blue Sky ) and the second single, which was a cover version by Teresa Brewers Music ! Music! Music! with B-side Blossoms on the Bough included, released in Australia on the Esquire label.

The first publication of Polygon was not by Petula, but by Louis Prima and his orchestra. Clark's first official polygon record was You Are My True Love with the B-side You're the Sweetest in the Land in 1950 . In total, Petuale recorded more than fifty songs for the label, including several duets with the other Polygon main artist, the later disc jockey Jimmy Young .

In late 1955, Polygon was sold to Nixa Records , which then became Pye Nixa Records . The new company used a selection of Petula Clark's polygon recordings to release their first album, Petula Clark Sings .

Petula Clark's complete polygon recordings are available on CD under the titles The Polygon Years, Volume One (1950–1952) and The Polygon Years, Volume Two (1952–1955) .
