A medieval castle towers over the city, the eponymous Castillo de Ayub . Six kilometers from the center of Calatayud are the ruins of the Roman Bilbilis , where the poet Martial was born. In addition to Calatayud, the churches of Cervera de la Cañada, Morata de Jiloca, Belmonte de Gracián or Ateca also have Mudejar-style towers.
In addition, the Monasterio de Piedra , a former Cistercian monastery from the late 12th century, should be mentioned. It is located near Nuévalos and is surrounded by a natural park, amazing for the dry southern Aragon, with rich flora and ponds for fish farming. In part of the former monastery there is now a hotel.
Both in the valley of the Río Jalón and in the valley of the Río Manubles there are several castle ruins, most of which can be traced back to the destruction by Castilian invaders during the " War of the Two Peter " (1356-1363).
In Paracuellos, Alhama de Aragón and Jaraba there are spas that were very popular at the end of the 19th century. The spa facilities have been modernized in the last few decades and the number of visitors has increased again. The largest warm water lake in Spain is located in the municipality of Alhama de Aragón.
