Beceite ( Catalan : Beseit ) is a Spanish municipality in the province of Teruel in the Autonomous Region of Aragón . It is located on the northwestern edge of the mountains of the Ports de Tortosa-Beseit in the Comarca Matarraña (Matarranya) in the predominantly Catalan-speaking area of Franja de Aragón on the upper reaches of the Rio Matarraña and its tributaries Ulldemó and Río Algars on the border with Catalonia . It is part of the Mancomunitat de la Taula del Sénia . On January 1, 2019, the community had 541 inhabitants.
Toponymy
The place name comes from Moorish times and is derived from bayt Zayd بيت زيد (House of Said).
