as well as from numerous nameless little hamlets and individual farms. The village of Kerien with the town hall and church is located in the extreme southeast of the municipality.
The landscape around Kerien is characterized by arable and grassland areas, which are separated from each other by the hedges typical of the area. Apart from the slopes on steep sections of the river, the area is poorly forested; only in the north does the municipality have shares in smaller forest areas. In the north the hills reach heights of just over 300 m; At 301 m there is a radio tower near the hamlet of Roc'h Glaz Bihan .
Neighboring communities of Kerien are Bourbriac in the north, Magoar in the east, Saint-Gilles-Pligeaux in the east, Lanrivain in the south, Peumerit-Quintin in the southwest and Maël-Pestivien in the west.
history
Kerien and the surrounding areas were built in the middle of the 12th century at the time of the founding of Coëtmaloën Abbey . The municipality of Kerien (called Querien in 1793 , Querrien in 1801 ) has remained unchanged since 1793.
Kérien literally means “cold city”. However, it is assumed that it is a corruption of Ker Jan , which means something like place of Jean (John, Johannes) . The background to this assumption is the existence of a small chapel called Saint-Jean in the early phase of settlement in what is now the municipality. Until the establishment of a separate parish in Kerien in 1879, services were held in the St. Norgant chapel.
