Runan is a French commune with 240 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Bretagne region in the Côtes-d'Armor department .
history
- Originally there was a pagan place of worship in the Runan area in honor of the god Belenus .
- The territory was eventually given to the Knights Templar .
- In 1312 Runan was taken over by the Order of St. John and from then on was attached to the Commandery of Palacret .
- The monks of Palacret built the present Notre-Dame church in the 14th and 15th centuries and operated a hospital and leprosy home here .
- Runan only became an independent community on September 1, 1986.
