Louargat ( Breton : Louergad ) is a French municipality with 3868 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Côtes-d'Armor in the region of Brittany ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Guingamp and the canton of Callac (until 2015: canton Belle-Isle-en-Terre ). The inhabitants are called Louargatais .
geography
Louargat is about 42 kilometers west of Saint-Brieuc . The Guindy River has its source in the municipality . Louargat is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Pluzunet in the north, Bégard in the northeast, Pédernec in the east and northeast, Tréglamus in the east and southeast, Gurunhuel in the south and southeast, Plougonver in the southwest, Belle-Isle-en-Terre in the west and Trégrom in the west and Northwest. The National Route 12 runs through the municipality . The station is on the Paris – Brest railway line .
history
On August 30, 1799, the Republicans fought here against royalists from Brittany, Normandy and northern Anjou (the Chouannes ). The fight was more of a skirmish (112 Republicans against about 160-200 Chouannes), from which the Republicans emerged victorious.
