history

The canton was established on February 15, 1790. From 1801 to 2015, eleven municipalities belonged to the canton of Callac. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of communes rose to 28 in 2015. In addition to the previous eleven communes of the old canton of Callac, all 7 communes of the previous canton of Belle-Isle-en-Terre , all 7 communes of the canton of Bourbriac , 2 of the 8 Municipalities in the canton of Guingamp and 1 of the 8 municipalities in the canton of Saint-Nicolas-du-Pélem .

The old canton of Callac comprised eleven municipalities on an area of ​​294.14 km²: Bulat-Pestivien , Calanhel , Callac (main town), Carnoët , Duault , Lohuec , Maël-Pestivien , Plourac'h , Plusquellec , Saint-Nicodème and Saint-Servais .

In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, three pairs of elections ran. Christian Coail / Claudine Guillou (both PS) won with an absolute majority against Marc Herve / Martine Tison (both UMP ) and Catherine Blein / Axel De La Mardière (both FN ) with a share of the vote of 56.98% (turnout: 58, 61%).
