The canton was created with the reorganization of the cantons in France in 2015 and consists of parts of the city of Saint-Brieuc. The urban areas used to belong to the cantons of Saint-Brieuc-Nord and Saint-Brieuc - Ouest .

In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, the team Gérard Blégean (UDI) / Brigitte Blévin (DVD) won against Hugo Gouysse / Monique Lucas (both PS ) with a share of the vote of 54.47% (turnout: 49.63%).
