The canton of Guingamp (Breton: canton Gwengamp ) is a French canton in the arrondissement of Guingamp , in the department of Côtes-d'Armor and in the region of Brittany ; its main town is Guingamp .

The canton is located in the north-western center of the Côtes-d'Armor department.

history

The canton was established on February 15, 1790. From 1793 to 1801 it had six municipalities. From 1801 to 2015, eight municipalities belonged to the canton of Guingamp. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of communes rose to 9. The two previous communes Coadout and Moustéru switched to the canton of Callac . In addition to the six remaining municipalities of the old canton of Guingamp, two of the eleven municipalities of the previous canton of Lanvollon and one of the seven municipalities of the canton of Plouagat were added.

In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the six voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, Laurence Corson / Yannick Kerlogot (both Divers droite) won against Pierre-Yves Conan / Francette Le Garff-Truhaud (both PS) with 63.35% of the votes (turnout: 53.17 %).
