Chan da Arquiña

The Mámoa of Chan da Arquiña is a dolmen north of Moaña , on the peninsula do Morrazo, in the Spanish border province of Pontevedra in southwest Galicia .

The approximately 5000 year old complex is characterized by the huge capstone that served as a cover for the chamber. The megalithic structures are known in Galicia as "Dolmen", in nearby Portugal as Anta . 11 erected stones form a polygonal chamber, excavated in 1953, which is covered with the large stone slab. Sometimes, as in this case, the dolmens have a preserved walkway that faces east. The rest of the hill, known in Galicia as Mámoa , has also been preserved.

In Galicia almost all dolmens were probably destroyed in search of "treasures". That coined the term “Mamoa violada”. Chan da Arquiña is one of the better preserved structures. Was found u. a. Axes and broken pottery.
