geography
The old district (la vila) lies north of a bend in the river, while the newer part (l'arrabal) lies south of this.
history
The settlement is traced back to the Ibero-Romanesque period. During the Reconquista , King Alfonso II of Aragon gave the place, whose name means "Valley of the Oaks", to the diocese, later the Archdiocese of Saragossa . As a fief, the place came to Fortún Robert, a canon of the cathedral in Saragossa . The castle also belonged to the archbishops. King Alfonso V held the Parliament of Cortes de Aragón here in 1429.
Economy and Transport
Valderrobres has an industrial area (Torre Sancho) and several hotels. The place is on the A-231 and A-1414 roads. The Ferrocarril del Val de Zafán railway, opened in 1942, passed Valderrobres at some distance; it was shut down in 1973. The Vía Verde de la Val de Zafán cycle path was set up on it.
