Xaver Mayer (politician)

Franz Xaver Mayer (born November 11, 1938 in Ganacker , today Pilsting ) is a former German farmer and politician ( CSU ).

Mayer studied agriculture in Rotthalmünster and Stuttgart-Hohenheim , then trained as an agricultural master and then worked as a practical farmer in Ganacker. In 1967 he took over his parents' farm. From 1972 to 1994 he was district chairman of the Bavarian Farmers' Association in the district of Dingolfing-Landau , in 1973 he became regional chairman of the Association of Agricultural Technical School Graduates, and from 1982 to 1998 he was its federal chairman. He was also a member of the presidia of the Bavarian and German Farmers' Associations .

Mayer joined the CSU in 1964, where he was district chairman of the Junge Union from 1964 to 1968 . For many years he was a member of the municipal council, the district council and the district council of Lower Bavaria . From 1978 to 1984 he was the second mayor of Pilsting. From 1994 to 2004 he sat in the European Parliament .

Mayer has been an honorary citizen of Pilsting since October 25, 2013. Mayer has been a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Carolingia Hohenheim since 1961.
