Margot Kessler

Margot Kessler (born September 8, 1948 in Kehmstedt , Nordhausen district ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

In 1967 Kessler received her high school diploma and her skilled worker qualification as a company and transport railroader, followed in 1971 by her diploma in Indology and Economics at the University of Leipzig . From 1971 to 1982 she worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the GDR and spent time in India , Pakistan , Bangladesh and Spain . She later worked as a technical translator at IFA - Motorenwerk Nordhausen and as an employee at the Cottana holiday home in Bleicherode . From 1994 to 1999 she was an honorary judge at the Weimar Administrative Court .

Kessler joined the SPD in 1989, where she was managing director of the Kyffhäuser and Nordhausen district associations for several years . In 1990 she ran for the Volkskammer , in 1994 and 1998 in the constituency of Nordhausen - Worbis - Heiligenstadt for the Bundestag . From 1999 to 2004 she was a member of the European Parliament , where she was chair of the Intergroup "Peace for the People of Western Sahara ". She was also a member of the Nordhausen district council for many years until she resigned her mandate on September 1, 2012.

Kessler is the mother of two sons.
