Ivan Liška

Ivan Liška (born November 8, 1950 in Prague ) is a German-Czech dancer and former director of the Bavarian State Ballet . He comes from a family of artists: his father was the painter Karel Liška , his grandmother a singer, his grandfather a violinist.

Life stations

Liška received his dance training at the Prague Conservatory . He made his first appearance in 1964 in Prague and danced at the National Theater in Prague . In the summer of 1969 he left Czechoslovakia . This was followed by engagements at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein from 1969 to 1974, at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich from 1974 to 1977 and at the Hamburg State Opera from 1977 to 1998. In Hamburg he was a soloist with John Neumeier for over 20 years . On September 1, 1998, he became director of the Bavarian State Balletcalled. Tours to St. Petersburg , Madrid , Budapest , Italy, Canada, Prague , Turkey and India were undertaken under his direction .

Ivan Liška is the first choreographer who was allowed to perform a piece by Pina Bausch with his company . The premiere of "For the children of yesterday, today and tomorrow" took place on April 3, 2016 in Munich. Ivan Liška is leaving the Bavarian State Opera at the end of the 2015/16 season.

Liška is married to the ballet master Colleen Scott and they have two sons.
