Viktor Sigl (born June 20, 1954 in Bad Kreuzen ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). From April 23, 2003 to April 18, 2013 he was regional councilor in the Upper Austrian provincial government and from April 18, 2013 to January 29, 2019 he was President of the Upper Austrian Parliament .

Life

Sigl completed an apprenticeship as a retail salesman and passed the license examination for the travel agency industry. In 1977 he took over his parents' taxi company. He is married and has three children, including the KTM AG CFO of the same name .

politics

Sigl was chairman of the Young People's Party in Bad Kreuzen from 1979 and was elected to the local council there in the same year . From 1985 to 2006 he was mayor of Bad Kreuzen.

From October 6, 1985 to July 2000, Sigl was a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament . He then moved to the Upper Austrian Chamber of Commerce as President and Finance Officer . In addition, from 2001 to 2004 he was chairman of the social insurance institute for commercial enterprises .

On October 23, 2003, he became a member of the Provincial Government of Upper Austria . As of 2009, his agendas included trade, spatial planning, citizenship, elections, business, community service and sport. In 2009, he handed over the education and society departments, which were also part of his agendas from 2003, to Doris Hummer . On January 21, 2013, the regional party executive of the ÖVP Upper Austria announced that Sigl would succeed the outgoing state parliament president Friedrich Bernhofer . The change took place in the state parliament session on April 18, 2013.

In addition to his political functions, Sigl is a member of the supervisory board of several companies, such as Energie AG , the Upper Austrian Technology and Marketing Company and, since 2002, the Volkskreditbank , Linz .

In November 2019 it was announced that he would be succeeded by Wolfgang Stanek as President of the State Parliament on January 30, 2020 . Gertraud Scheiblberger took over Sigl's state parliament mandate . He chaired his last state parliament session on December 5, 2019.
