Roßbach (also Rossbach) is a municipality in Upper Austria in the Braunau am Inn district in the Innviertel with 900 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The responsible judicial district is the judicial district Braunau am Inn . Roßbach is one of the 432 municipalities in the federal state of Upper Austria, which participate in the health initiative "Healthy municipality".

Roßbach is 442 m above sea level in the Innviertel. The extension is 6.6 km from north to south and 5.1 km from west to east. The total area is 14.8 km². 30.4% of the area is forested, 63.5% of the area is used for agriculture.

The official description of the municipal coat of arms is as follows: Above a silver shield base, inside a blue wavy strip, in red a silver horse hull. The community colors are blue and white.

The place name Roßbach is derived from the "brook" on which horses were led to drink and wash.

On March 27, 1972, the municipal coat of arms was awarded and the municipal colors established by the municipal council on January 27, 1972 were approved by the resolution of the Upper Austrian provincial government . The design of the coat of arms comes from the German-Austrian painter and set designer Martin Stachl , who also designed the coats of arms of the communities of Feldkirchen near Mattighofen , Geretsberg , Haigermoos and Pramet .

history

Since the founding of the Duchy of Bavaria, the place was Bavarian until 1779 and came to Austria after the Treaty of Teschen with the Innviertel (then 'Innbaiern'). Briefly Bavarian again during the Napoleonic Wars , since 1814 it has finally belonged to Upper Austria. After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau . After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.

Population development

In 1991 the community had 892 inhabitants according to the census, in 2001 it had 947 inhabitants. The sharp increase occurred because the birth balance and migration balance were positive. From 2001 to 2011, emigration was stronger than immigration, but the outflow was offset by the birth balance, so that the number of inhabitants rose slightly to 950.
