history

Waasen Castle after a copper engraving by Michael Wening from (1721)

The Waasen residence was first mentioned in a document in 1313, and in 1378 the Haus zu dem Wasen was named. Wasen is an old German word for swamp area, low moor, wet meadow , so a name for the moor settlement : The lowlands of Moosbach and Lochbach ( Loch / Luch 'moor') are still wetlands today.

From the late Middle Ages - initially Bavarian , from 1799 Austrian - until 1848 the Hofmark Waasen was here , with different families of owners. Waasen is still the largest town in the municipality. After the abolition of the subservience relationships in 1848/49 , the local parishes of Moosbach were formed in 1850 from the cadastral parishes Waasen and Grubedt . Waasen remained formally the main town of the municipality, even if both the municipal office and the church are in Moosbach.

The castle went off in the 1880s.
