Characteristic

  • Low and high terrace corridors of Mattig and Schwemmbach with many side channels.
  • The Mattig is meandering in large areas and largely undeveloped. Many near-natural riparian trees exist especially north of Mattighofen. Many areas were regulated in the settlement areas.
  • The Schwemmbach, formerly created artificially for wood flood , flows rather slowly.
  • Some retention basins near Teichstätt contain a species-rich fauna and flora.
  • The valley area is rather poor in cultural landscape elements, only between Mattighofen and Mauerkirchen is there a rich cultural landscape with hedges, single trees, avenues and orchards .
  • Larger forest areas ( spruce forests ) can only be found south of Mattighofen, otherwise the area is rather poorly forested. Otherwise there are black alder - ash forests , only a few hybrid poplar forests and beech forests . In part, remains of natural deciduous forests can be found on the slopes between the low and high terrace.
  • There are small remnants of lean meadows on the edges of the embankment and isolated wet meadows. The area is mainly used intensively for agriculture (mainly arable farming).
  • There are some larger settlement centers in the valley area (Mattighofen, Uttendorf, Mauerkirchen, etc.) but there is a strong trend towards urban sprawl along the transport routes and in the vicinity of the settlement areas.
