The Südinnviertler Seengebiet is a region in the southern Innviertel and forms one of the 41  Upper Austrian spatial units .

location

The room unit is located exclusively in the Braunau am Inn district on the border with the state of Salzburg.

The area of ​​the Südinnviertel lake area is 245.04 km². The maximum length (west-east) is 24 km, the maximum north-south extent around 12 km. The deepest area is around 415  m above sea level. A. near the Moosach near Reith . The highest area of ​​the area is the Haiderthal at around 563  m above sea level. A.

The following municipal areas have a high proportion of the Südinnviertel lake area (in alphabetical order): Haigermoos , Eggelsberg , Feldkirchen , Kirchberg , Moosdorf , Palting , Perwang , St. Georgen , St. Pantaleon and Tarsdorf .

The room unit is surrounded by the following Upper Austria room units (clockwise, starting in the north): Neukirchner Platte , Hausruck and Kobernaußerwald , Mattigtal , Mondseer Flyschberge , Salzachtal and Weilharts- and Lachforst .

The Südinnviertel Lake District is divided into two sub-units:

  • Moraine landscape
  • Lakes and moors

Characteristic

  • A wavy, humped moraine landscape of the former Salzach foreland glacier.
  • Agricultural use is dominant; arable farming and meadows are predominant .
  • The proportion of forest is low (around 20%), but there are many small forests that shape the landscape. Beech forests are widespread, but ash , sycamore maple and hornbeam are less common.
  • The river network is often unstructured and regulated. The central moor areas have many drainage ditches. Austria's largest moor area, the Ibmer Moor, is also located in the spatial unit .
  • The IBNER Moor home to the largest curlews -Population in Upper Austria. Large parts of the moor have been peated and many former moor areas have been drained and thus destroyed. There is still industrial peat extraction in the area.
  • There are also moor areas worthy of protection outside the Ibmer Moors such as Tarsdorfer Filz or Enknachmoore. The moors and lakes of the spatial unit are home to many endangered animal and plant species.
  • The moraine landscape is a rich cultural landscape with small forests, lakes, moors and meadows with fruit trees . The landscape has some species-rich litter meadows.
  • The settlement areas predominantly consist of individual farms or hamlets . There are a few larger villages with little sprawl.
  • The gentle tourism in the area takes place especially at the lakes (e.g. Holzöstersee or Heratinger See ). The lakes are used for swimming, camping or fishing. Furthermore, cycling and hiking (moor hiking trails) are of great importance. The region is part of the transnational tourism region of Seelentium .
