Landscape in Ibmer Moor

The at times intensive economic use of the moorland until the 1970s severely damaged the original vegetation through peat cutting , drainage or grazing. Nevertheless, there is still a large variety of rare bog plants and one of the largest curlews in Austria in the Ibmer Moor . The mixture of the different types of bog, low bog , transition bog and raised bog is remarkable . The Ibmer Moor drains over the Franzensbach below St. Georgen into the Salzach .

As a natural landscape, the Ibmer Moor is associated with the Weidmoos (belonging to the Salzburg municipalities of St. Georgen and Lamprechtshausen ) and the Bürmooser Moor (also located in the Salzburg municipality of Bürmoos ).

At the Ibmer Chapel there is a memorial plaque with the inscription: “In honor of Mr. August Planck Edler von Planckenburg - founder of the Ibm-Waidmooser Wassergenossenschaft under whose careful management the dumping of the local bogs started. - Died on December 4, 1894 at the age of 55. "

A part of the area has been accessible to the general public since 1973 via a 4 km long nature trail.

The moorland is protected as an Austrian nature reserve and Natura 2000 bird sanctuary under the name "Frankinger Moos" (registered with the number n123 as an Upper Austrian nature reserve or with the designation AT3102000, nn 02 as a Natura 2000 area). A part is registered under the name "Pfeiferanger" (n048 or AT3103000, nn 03). In addition, the moor belongs to the collective fauna-flora-habitat area " Meadows and lakes in the Alpine foothills " (AT3123000, eu 06). The Ibmer Moor is also considered a bird sanctuary of world renown and is designated as such in the form of an “ Important Bird Area ” in Austria under the designation AT035 .

The adjacent Weidmoos is a Salzburg nature reserve ( NSG 00024 ) and also a Natura 2000 bird sanctuary ( AT3225000, ESG 00003 ). The Bürmooser Moor next to it falls under the same protective measures (NSG 00028 or AT3228000, ESG 00018).

tourism

Seeleitensee on the edge of the Ibmer Moor

The moorland and the surrounding communities are advertised under the brand “ Seelentium - Upper Innviertel / Flachgau Wellbeing Region”. Hikes and excursions are offered for the Ibmer Moor and the Weidmoos, whereby care is taken with the moor.

Adjacent to the moor in the north, not far from the small Seeleitensee, which is not accessible to the public, there is the larger Heratinger See with the possibility of hiking ( barefoot path with insect hotel) as well as with a campsite and bathing facilities. To the south of the moor, in the village of Hackenbuch, there is a local history and moor museum, including information on the flora and fauna there and on the past use of all of the region's moors.

The “Ibmer Moor Cycle Path” is named after the Ibmer Moor, a 36 km long cycle route called the R 25 from Riedersbach to Hochburg-Ach .
