Riedersbach is 392  m above sea level and has 846 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The Moosach , a small border river between Upper Austria and Salzburg , flows into the Salzach here . Two coal-fired power plants were once dominant in the economy.

history

In the 1950s, a settlement was built in Riedersbach for workers from the nearby SAKOG lignite mine in Trimmelkam . From 1967 to 1969 a coal steam power plant, the Riedersbach I power plant , was built with a capacity of 50/55 MW, in which the coal from this mining was burned as fuel. From 1982 to 1986 a second coal steam power plant (Riedersbach II) was built with an output of 168/176 MW. The power plants were converted to hard coal firing in 1994/1995, as the mining in Trimmelkam was finally closed in 1993 after the SAKOG resolution. The two power plants were mainly in operation from autumn to spring.

Culture and buildings

From 1951 efforts were made to the church pastoral care of the emerging settlement; today's Catholic parish church in Riedersbach was consecrated on October 2nd, 1955.

A symposium for metal sculptors took place on the site of Kraftwerk I in the 2000s. The results were around 200 steel sculptures in the freely accessible Riedersbach Steel Park. However, some of them were relocated in 2016 due to a new building and can now be viewed on a former coal storage area.
