Trimmelkam is a village in the southwest of the Innviertel in Upper Austria and is part of the municipality of St. Pantaleon . The place, which belongs to the cadastral community Wildshut, has around 600 inhabitants. From 1947 to 1993 there was a coal mine here.

location

Trimmelkam is located about four kilometers northwest of St. Pantaleon and almost two kilometers east of the German-Austrian border. Neighboring towns are Ostermiething in the north-west, Diepoltsdorf (Gem. Ostermiething) in the north, Weyer (municipality of Haigermoos) in the north-east, Wildshut in the south, Stockham and Riedersbach in the south-west.

The village also includes the Vorderberg settlement and part of the hamlet of Esterloh in the southeast . The hamlet of Schmieding , which belongs to the village of Weyer, has largely grown together with Trimmelkam.

About one kilometer east of Trimmelkam is the Höllerersee , which is used for recreational purposes .

Infrastructure

The place was integrated into the network of the S-Bahn Salzburg until December 14, 2014 as the end point of the Bürmoos – Trimmelkam railway line operated by Salzburg AG . On December 14, 2014, the route was also extended to Ostermiething as scheduled . It can be reached every hour from Salzburg and every half hour during rush hour.

In Trimmelkam, a coal mine of the Salzach-Kohlenbergbau-Gesellschaft (SAKOG) was operated from 1947 to 1993 , which supplied the nearby Riedersbach power plant with brown coal until it was converted to hard coal . The coal deposits are geologically related to those of the Hausruck and Kobernaußerwald forests . The mine, which was perceived as unique, was demolished after its closure at the behest of the Mayor of St. Pantaleon and an industrial park was built on the former site of the mining company . There is also a culture and leisure center on site, the “sakog” cultural center.
