The Weilharts- und Lachforst is one of 41 Upper Austrian spatial units and is located in the Innviertel .

The room unit is located exclusively in the Braunau am Inn district .

The area of ​​the Weilharts- and Lachforst is 104.71 km². The deepest area is around 380  m above sea level. A. near Ranshofen . The highest area of ​​the area are the hills in the upper Weilhartsforst at around 500  m above sea level. A.

The following municipal areas have a high proportion of the Weilharts and Lachforst (in alphabetical order): St. Radegund , Hochburg-Ach , Geretsberg and Überackern .

The room unit is surrounded by the following Upper Austria room units (clockwise, starting in the north): Inntal , Inn- and Hausruckviertler Hügelland , Neukirchner Platte , Südinnviertler Seengebiet and Salzachtal . The Neukirchner Platte spatial unit divides the Weilhart and Lachforst into two independent parts.

Characteristic

  • Both flat and hilly landscape between 400 and 500 meters above sea level.
  • The subsoil of the upper Weilhartforst is moraine gravel , the northern parts of the spatial unit are on terraces . What is common is the strongly acidic soil.
  • The forest area consists almost exclusively of spruce forests and is not close to nature. There is a mixed forest on a small scale, rather insignificant. There is a tendency towards more natural cultivation, therefore new plantings are made with beeches or other deciduous trees. The forest area and the surrounding area are sharply separated.
  • There are small, greasy meadows and natural small lakes and ponds (e.g. Huckinger Lakes ). Rare aquatic plants and interesting occurrences of amphibians can be found in this still water . There are occasional fens.
  • Apart from the Enknach in the Lachforst there are no other rivers.
  • Extraction of raw materials through gravel pits and natural gas deposits .
  • Important, national roads lead through the spatial unit. Numerous forest roads also cut through the area.
  • A large industrial area ( Austria Metall ) is located in the Lachforst.
