The Walser Rescue is an emergency services organization in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg . The organization is responsible for security in the Kleinwalsertal . Due to the difficult geographical location of the valley, which can only be reached from Oberstdorf , the rescue service is not carried out by the Austrian Red Cross , but by the Bavarian Red Cross , especially because the valley does not have its own hospital. The Walser rescue is a cooperation between the two aid organizations. The Walser rescue operates an ambulance and an emergency doctor vehicle in the regular rescue service. Another ambulance is manned by the voluntary on-call service of the organization. The vehicles and the full-time staff are provided by the Oberallgäu district association of the Bavarian Red Cross. The rescue service is alerted by the rescue and fire brigade control center Vorarlberg in Feldkirch via the medical emergency number 144. The Walser rescue was founded in December 1995 by the Bavarian Red Cross, the Austrian Red Cross and the Vorarlberg municipality Mittelberg . The organization's rescue station has been in Riezlern since 2011 .
