Riezlern is a place in the Kleinwalsertal in Vorarlberg as well as the capital and village of the municipality Mittelberg in the district of Bregenz .

geography

The place is located 70 kilometers southeast of Bregenz , 23 kilometers south of Immenstadt and 44 km northwest of Imst , in the middle of the Allgäu Alps , between the northwestern Walsertal mountains and the southeastern Walsertal mountains .

The village of Riezlern is about 9 kilometers southwest of Oberstdorf, at the beginning of the valley 4 kilometers after the border. It is located on the right of the Breitach , the main stream of the valley, at approx. 1089  m above sea level. A. Height. It has about 250 addresses.

The village of Riezlern is the largest town in the municipality and comprises 556 buildings with 2,488 inhabitants, roughly 2 ⁄ 5 of the population. The village itself has almost half of this, the rest is spread over some parts of the village.

Because the Kleinwalsertal / Mittelberg is a customs exclusion area and thus a German economic area, the place has not only the Austrian postcode (A-) 6991 but also a German one , namely (D-) 87567. This was retained after Austria joined the EU , but the German telephone code 08329 was closed on July 1, 2003, only 0043/5517 (from Germany, 05517 in Austria) is valid for all of Mittelberg.

The Breitach is the largest stream in the Kleinwalsertal. In Riezlern, the following streams feed the Breitach downstream:

Behind the border is the Rotte Wald right above the Breitach. Then follows Unterwestegg from the Buchenbach into the valley with the Rotten Schwand and Westegg as the main town. On the other side of the valley above the mouth of the Schwarzwasserbach is the Rotte Schwende with the scattered houses Straussberg out of the valley and the Gatterbach up the Rotte Klausenwald to the state border at Hörnlebach near Ausserwald. After the Schmiedebach follows in the main valley Riezlern ', with Zwerwald after the Zwerenbach. On the Riedel between Breitach and Schwarzwasserbach opposite lies the Rotte Egg with side (parts of which are also included in the village of Hirschegg ) and the hamlet of Kesselschwand am Bach.

history

During the great escape from Tannberg around 1300, some emigrated Walser families from the Valais settled . They called their settlement Zu den Rützlern , from which today's name Riezlern arose.

The municipal office is in Riezlern , which is responsible for the municipality of Mittelberg , which comprises three localities.

There is a Catholic parish church in Riezlern , the social center, the school center and the recycling center. There is also the Casino Kleinwalsertal ( Austria's smallest casino ), the outdoor swimming pool, the Kanzelwandbahn and the spa gardens. There are nine banks in Riezlern (as of 2013).

The Walserbus runs in Riezlern. During the high season it runs every ten minutes on line no.1.

Every Wednesday, in bad weather, there is a demonstration of the production of the Chranz , the headdress of the Walser girls.
