Gemstelboden is a small town in the Kleinwalsertal in Vorarlberg and belongs to the municipality of Mittelberg in the Bregenz district .

geography

The place is located 37 kilometers southwest of Bregenz , between the northwestern Walsertal mountains and the southeastern Walsertal mountains of the Allgäu Alps , in the upper Kleinwalsertal about 1½ kilometers into the valley southwest of Mittelberg .

The Rotte lies at around 1160  m above sea level. A. Height to the right of the Breitach , the main river of the Talung, where the Gemstelbach joins and the Gemsteltal runs southwards into the southeastern Walsertal mountains . This rises east of the Zwölfer  ( 2224  m ), southwest of the Bärenkopf  ( 2083  m ). In the Walstertal opposite is the Walmendinger Horn  ( 1990  m ) with its broad flank of the Heuberg  ( 1795  m above sea level ).

The small town only has 4 addresses. On the other side of the brook is the single layer Wiesele (today uninhabited).

The location can be reached from Bödmen on the L201  Kleinwalsertalstraße (Gemstelweg) .

In the village there is still an old, well-preserved characteristic Walser house ( house Gemstelboden 4 ). The two-story, dark black wooden building with white windows is a listed building , but can only be viewed from the outside as inhabited.

The hiking trail leads through the village from Mittelberg into the Gemsteltal , there are routes on both sides of the stream. You reach the Obergemstelalpe via the Bernhardagemstelalpe and Hintere Gemstelalpe . From here it goes to the Sterzerhütte and over the Koblatpass into the Oberstdorfer Bayerische and direction Warth , or over the Gemstelpass to the Widdersteinhütte on the Krumbacher Höhenweg and down to the Hochtannbergpass .
