history
The former director of the Graz Commercial Academy Arthur von Schmid left a generous legacy to the Graz section of the German and Austrian Alpine Association in 1902. The Graz Section then acquired a piece of land on Dösener See in 1905, on which a refuge was built in 1910/11, which was named “Arthur-von-Schmid-Haus” in memory of the donor. Major renovation and expansion work took place in 1927, 1930, 1978/79 and 2008.
Tours
Ascent
The Arthur-von-Schmid-Haus can be easily reached from Mallnitz in about 4½ hours on foot. The ascent is from Mallnitz, shortly after the train station, via the "Dösener Kirchweg" into the Dösental to the Konrad-Hütte and Konrad-Lacke (approx. 2 to 2½ hours). Now it goes steeply uphill past the uncultivated "Dösner Hut". Up to this point it is a good 1 to 1½ hours from the Konrad hut. The last stage now goes flat over a high valley until around 20 minutes before the finish. Here is another somewhat steeper ascent. Once you have mastered this, you already have the goal of this hike in front of your eyes.
