Ralph Ruthe (born May 20, 1972 in Bielefeld ) is a German cartoonist , comic artist , author and musician .

Life

Ralph Ruthe was born in 1972 in Bielefeld as the second child of a master carpenter and a housewife and grew up in the neighboring community of Leopoldshöhe . During his secondary school days in Bad Salzuflen , he sought contact with German-language comic magazines, through which he met the creators of the Volksbank customer booklet Mike , Mali Beinhorn and Werner Büsch. With her support, he contributed texts for Mike at the age of 14 . After graduating from high school, he trained as a typesetter and worked as a copywriter for the Honk Studios , where he wrote texts for Captain Blaubär , among other things . After his community service , his first book Schweinskram was published in 1996 .

In 1998, Ruthe began drawing for the German edition of MAD magazine . Until 2001 he was a permanent employee of Neue Westfälische in Bielefeld, after which he became a freelance comic author, illustrator and writer. Since 2003 he has been working mainly on his cartoon series Shit Happens! and fins that appear in many newspapers and magazines. His youth series Frühhreif (appeared, for example, in the WAZ ) was also edited for a TV implementation. The series was discontinued in 2015. Ruthe has been married since 2014 and has had twins since October 2016.

Most of the speaking roles in short films and skits are spoken by himself, they are animated by Falk Hühne . Many of his skits and short film series are also published in English. The Canadian Arne Christiansen takes on all speaking roles as well as the translations of all texts. In addition, all speech animations of the protagonists are adapted to English and all texts contained in the videos are replaced by the English translation.

Since 2006 Ruthe has had his own stage program in which he reads texts he wrote himself and combines them with his projected cartoons. He shows his own cartoons and music videos, reads short stories and sings live. He also presented parts of this program in the show Mädchen Monster Misgeschicke , which he has played regularly with his colleagues Christian Moser and Flix since autumn 2007. All three artists used the comic medium and acted on the stage.

Commercial parodies

For the back of the MAD magazine , Ralph Ruthe produced advertising parodies in comic form under the title Ruthe Reklamiert , based on real advertising motifs. He later published some cartoons on the same subject. These are (as of August 2016):

Commercial parodies 2 , are parodied: Canesten Gyn Once, a remedy for vaginal thrush ; Carglass ; Bear brand milk; the SEITENBACHER radio advertising as well as Alpecin and its head of laboratory Dr. Klenk, who smokes cannabis .

Commercial parodies 3 , are parodied: Leibniz biscuits; M & Ms and Kinder Schokolade , with an armed M&M chasing a Kinder Chocolate surprise egg; a hormone-free contraceptive and Vagisan MoistCream.

Commercial parodies 4 - 90s special , are parodied: The dishwashing detergent Calgonit and glasses: Fielmann ; Schwäbisch Hall, with the Bauspar fox smoking weed; Charmin , a toilet paper; the hairspray three weather taffeta ; Kellogs Frosties and the “Werther's Echte” sweets.

Commercial parodies 5 , are parodied: Rügenwalder Pommersche Gutsleberwurst; ratiopharm; the Leibniz PickUp Chocolate Caramel; the borchardt restaurant Berlin; Google and Reise.com.

“Christmas Special” advertising parodies are parodied: The 1 & 1 “Head of Customer Satisfaction”; another remedy for vaginal thrush; Kinder chocolate surprise egg; Alpecins laboratory manager "Dr. Klenk “; Edeka's “Coming Home”; M & Ms, Fielmann and Milka.

Advertising parodies 6 , are parodied: Red Bull with the slogan: “Red Bull gives you wings!” ; the building society LBS; extra chewing gum and Snickers bars.

So far, so-called outtakes have been produced for the commercial parodies part 2 and 3 . In these, some scenes from the actual parts are repeated with a different plot.

music

In addition to his cartoons, Ruthe makes music, which is always a dominant element in his cartoons. With the song You are like sand , which can be heard in the short film of the same name, he achieved an iTunes chart placement for several weeks. Other songs are, for example: You are like snow , Lick it , Das Klo , Kopfkirmes , Leben hinter Glas and What did your parents do wrong? He also performs with his band We are Linus on tours in his hometown.

Movie

In 2008 Ruthe directed the no-budget film Carninchen . Martina Eitner-Acheampong , who is best known from the TV series Stromberg , played one of the main roles . This film was published on Ruthe's YouTube channel.
