Firm & fluffy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fest & Flauschig is a German-language podcast on the music streaming service Spotify , moderated by Olli Schulz and Jan Böhmermann . As of May 15, 2016, he succeeded the radio show Gentle & Careful .

history

Olli Schulz (l.) And Jan Böhmermann (r.) Together with the program manager of Radio Eins, Robert Skuppin (2012 Gentle & Careful live)

Schulz and Böhmermann moderated the radio show Sanft & Sorgvollig on the Berlin-Brandenburg radio station Radio Eins from September 9, 2012 to April 24, 2016 , which was also broadcast by other ARD stations. In the course of the Böhmermann affair there was an extraordinary interruption in production in spring 2016. Meanwhile, on April 25, 2016, the moderators announced the end of Gentle & Careful on Facebook . Shortly thereafter, the media reported that the two were planning to switch to the Spotify streaming service . He started an advertising campaign for the new program and announced its final name two days before the first issue.

Schulz and Böhmermann, who in 2013 were critical of the streaming provider in their show and accused him of a lack of fairness in dealing with artists, addressed this in their first program on Spotify. Schulz stated about the change of heart with regard to the streaming service: “I think people who say that they are always true to each other shit. If you always stay true to yourself, you are a blunt unicellular organism that does not move! ”.

content

Like the previous show, Fest & Flauschig is also characterized by dialogues between Schulz and Böhmermann. These are characterized by a not very goal-oriented, sometimes misleading, exaggerated and rampant course and revolve around wholly or partly fictional reports and considerations on the private and artist life of the two. The current political and social events are commented on, with seriousness and absurd exaggerations alternating at high frequency.

As before, each program has its own title (such as Artistic Depression or The Blue Hour ), but its content only plays a minor role. A rubric taken over from the radio show is the series "The Big Five", in which the moderators define their respective "Top Five" of a predetermined topic (as of December 2016 - the "Spiegel TV forecast" was also published once as well as the hand puppets "Fidi & Bumsi" taken from the previous show). Böhmermann also occasionally takes on the role of the fictional Stefan Brüllberger , a politically disenchanted and xenophobic angry citizen .

Occasionally guests are invited, such as Thees Uhlmann , Ina Müller , Bela B , Heinz Strunk , Barbara Schöneberger , Ralph Ruthe , Dirk von Lowtzow , Deniz Yücel or Bill Kaulitz . One role that has grown in importance since the podcast began was that of editor Su Holder. In early episodes, Holder could occasionally be heard on Olli Schulz's side for interspersed information in the background, but as the podcast continued, she was more and more often switched on with her own microphone and at times participated as the third interlocutor on the show. From 2018 she had her own section called Party-Hopping , in which she presented various clubs and discos in Germany, the comic result of the fact that, as can be seen from the way she presented, she apparently never visited the respective club.

While the verbal portion of the earlier radio broadcast was interrupted by music moderated by Schulz and Böhmermann, this is not possible on Spotify for technical and licensing reasons. In addition to the podcast, there is a music playlist (“Fidi & Bumsi”), to which Schulz and Böhmermann refer, in which they verbally “interrupt” the program and ask the listener to play the piece that has been moderated.

The length of the podcast varies between one and two hours, depending on the topic and the perseverance of the moderators. As a result of the Böhmermann affair , the content of the podcast, in particular comments and statements by Böhmermann about his television program , are repeatedly taken up by the media in their reporting.

Intro

Some issues begin with individual intros, which are produced by Olli Schulz and which often take up bizarre interviews. In the meantime, the intro has also been produced by radio play author and speaker Marco Göllner . Its leitmotif was always the first sentence "It's a perfectly normal Sunday in Germany, two men are talking about this and that and that". From mid-2018 onwards, the show relied on intros by Schulz again, but a separate party and fluffy song ("Baby make them to the Bluetoothbox") is also often used.

Rubrics

The big 5

In the section "The Big 5 - Defined by Böhmermann and Schulz", the two moderators and, if necessary, a guest present their personal Top 5 on a topic.

Animals that made it

Here animals that have historical or social significance are presented.

The yoga teacher

During the COVID-19 pandemic 2020 , the fictional short radio play series “The Yoga Teacher” with the subtitle an “erotic mystery radio play by Jan Böhmermann and Olli Schulz” appeared in some issues. The scenic read episodes are about the yoga teacher Antje Wehlers, who comes into bizarre situations with two characters, embodied by Böhmermann and Schulz. In addition to Böhmermann and Schulz, Bjarne Mädel , Sascha Draeger , Peter Knorr and Katrin Bauerfeind also appear in this piece . Schulz disguises his voice as a grandpa, among other things. In an interview with Heinz Strunk about his radio play series Family Constellation on Spotify, he stated that he was inspired by Strunk for this speaking technique. The series finale appeared on April 29, 2020. On July 5th, 2020, at the beginning of the summer break, a 70-minute episode entitled “The Yoga Teacher” was released, which contained all the relevant excerpts from the episodes that had already been published.

production

The weekly new episode always appears on Sunday at midnight on Spotify.

Since the start of broadcasting in 2020, an additional, slightly shorter episode has been published every Wednesday. Accordingly, 2 episodes were uploaded every week until Böhmermann and Schulz announced on March 18, 2020 that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, daily for an indefinite period, i.e. H. from Tuesday to Friday and in addition to their regular Sunday podcast, publish a shorter Fest und Fluschig: At Home Podcast. On April 24, 2020, Böhmermann and Schulz reduced the podcast back to two weekly editions.

The recording takes place a few days in advance, with the moderators usually staying in different places, mostly in Cologne and Berlin . Occasionally, programs are also recorded from other locations when the moderators are away.

On Monday, December 19, 2016, recordings of a two-part Christmas program with guests were shown in the Berlin Tempodrom . The "Circus Special" with 2,500 spectators, which ran under the title Janolli , was canceled after about an hour due to the attack on the Christmas market at the Gedächtniskirche , not far from the venue. The Christmas circus was repeated on Monday, December 18, 2017, with Bastian Pastewka and Jenny Elvers appearing as surprise guests. Spectators who were already present at the interrupted performance in 2016 were given priority in the ticket allocation. The proceeds were donated to non-profit organizations. Böhmermann also gave the ID of a Bitcoin wallet and converted the amount received into further donations.

In the broadcast on June 25, 2017, in which rapper Ali As was a guest, the connection with Böhmermann broke off after 20 minutes due to a storm. Schulz and As then moderated the rest of the show on their own.

On Tuesday, September 18, 2018, the recordings for the anniversary podcast of the two-part 100th episode with 4,000 viewers ran in the Hamburg sports hall . Guests were Heimwerkerkönig and YouTuber Fynn Kliemann in the first part and Heinz Strunk , Thees Uhlmann and MC Sebastian “Porky” Dürre von Deichkind , who actually sat in the audience in the second part .

On Tuesday, December 18, 2018, there was again a two-part recording of a Christmas program under the name “Fest & Fluschig Christmas Express”. This took place for the first time in the sold out Starlight Express Theater in Bochum . In the course of the special local conditions in the hall, Schulz and Böhmermann sometimes appeared on roller skates or a bicycle. There was also a short appearance by some actors from the local musical Starlight Express . Böhmermann and Schulz distributed gifts from well-known TV personalities such as Joko Winterscheidt and Palina Rojinski during the recording . The guests were the presenter and DJane Larissa Rieß , as well as the musician Chilly Gonzales .

On Saturday, December 21, 2019, the two-part recording of the 2019 Christmas programs took place under the name "Fest & Fluschig - Once Upon a time in Vegesack". The recordings took place in the Gustav Heinemann community center in Vegesack , Böhmermann's hometown. Since the event hall only holds around 600 spectators, the tickets for the two shows were sold individually, so that a total of around 1200 spectators could take part in the recordings. In contrast to the events of previous years, when there were many guests, the first recording was an episode without guests; in the second recording, Aki Bosse was the only guest invited.

In May 2019, Spotify announced that it had extended the show for three more seasons. The podcast will therefore continue to be produced until at least 2022.

Since 2020, in addition to the normal output on Sunday, a shortened podcast of around 30 minutes has also been running on Wednesday. The Wednesday edition appeared on Spotify under the title “Fest und Fluschig - Auf die Hand”. In the course of the Covid-19 pandemic , the frequency of the program was briefly increased to five episodes per week and the Tuesday-Friday issues were published under the title “Fest und Fluschig - At home”. During this period, the Wednesday edition “Fest und Fluschig - Auf die Hand” was replaced by the format “Fest und Fluschig - At home”. Katrin Bauerfeind , Bjarne Mädel , Sascha Draeger , Fynn Kliemann and Dirk von Lowtzow also appeared in these special programs . In addition, there was still the well-known weekly edition on Sunday. From the Sunday edition of April 26, 2020, Böhmermann and Schulz broadcast according to the old schedule.
