The district of Salzburg Süd in Salzburg

Salzburg-Süd is the district on the left bank of the Salzach River in the south of the city of Salzburg . Nonntal borders this district in the north and northwest . The Eschenbach and the narrow green space on both sides of it form the border between the districts. The Salzach River connects to the east and the landscape garden laid out by Markus Sittikus von Hohenems to the west on both sides of Hellbrunner Allee . The closed settlement area ends in the south at Hellbrunn Bridge .

The district of Salzburg-Süd consists of the settlement areas Josefiau , Herrnau and Alpensiedlung . Around 11,000 people live in the south of Salzburg today.

The entire district belongs to the Salzburg cadastral community of Morzg. As part of the structure of the Catholic parish districts, Salzburg-Süd is fully assigned to the parish of Sankt Erentrudis in the "Gottessiedlung" Herrnau. Salzburg-Süd also has a share in the landscape protection area Salzburg-Süd .

Structure of the district

The term Salzburg-Süd can be used to summarize three closely connected and interwoven city districts or settlement centers: Josefiau, Herrnau and Alpensiedlung. The Josefiau grew around Josefiaustraße and Aspergasse after 1925, the Herrnau and the Alpensiedlung after 1950. It seems so logical that the designation Salzburg-Süd itself is a new artificial name without historical references.

All three districts were created in the former Josefiau landscape near the Salzach, which was made usable as a settlement area through the Salzach regulation - here implemented around 1890.

  • Joseph's settlement

The Josefiau settlement is the oldest settlement center in Salzburg Süd. It was built in the parts close to the city around Aspergasse (with its side streets Solaristraße, Mascagnigasse and Dariogasse) and around Josefiaugasse (with its side streets Enzingergasse, Naumanngasse, Rottmayrgasse, Pezoltgasse and Fischbachstraße) between 1925 and 1935, i.e. before the Second World War .
  • Alpine settlement
The Alpine settlement emerged a few years after the Second World War from a provisional German Wehrmacht army camp of the pioneers of the Second World War, which was called the Alpine Camp . Today it is one of the largest industrial areas in the city of Salzburg.
  • Herrnau settlement
The Herrnau settlement is located in the oldest core next to the Herrnau Castle of the same name . This old core was built between 1955 and 1960 as a home savings and loan settlement of Bausparkasse Wüstenrot.

traffic

The dominant traffic axis of the district of Salzburg-Süd is the Alpenstrasse , which, together with Ignaz-Harrer-Strasse (in the district of Lehen ), is the busiest road in the city of Salzburg away from the motorway. The northern end of the Alpine Road also forms the border with the Nonntal district. (After that, the north-extended traffic axis of the Alpenstraße is called Hellbrunner Straße .) The Alpenstraße is part of the Salzburger Straße B150 . It is used by the city's trolleybus routes 3 and 8 as well as the Albus bus route 28, all of which have a connection to bus route 22.

The ÖBB stop Salzburg Süd on the Giselabahn , which is served not only by the S-Bahn but also by long-distance traffic from / to Graz, is on the other side of the Salzach.

Nature and landscape protection

In the protected part of the landscape Josefiau

The Salzburg-Süd landscape protection area has existed in its current form since 1981 . The large area (around 12 km²), which also extends to the Morzg district and the communities of Anif and, to a lesser extent, Grödig , Elsbethen and Puch near Hallein , occupies the west of the Herrnau area within the Salzburg-Süd district.

There are several protected parts of the landscape and natural monuments in the entire landscape conservation area, none of which is located in the Salzburg-Süd district. There are protected natural objects in Salzburg-Süd outside the landscape protection area, namely the natural monument

  • Oaks on Faistauergasse (Josefiau)

as well as the protected parts of the landscape

  • Hellbrunner Straße (trees on the border between Josefiau and the Nonntal district )
  • Josefiau (remnants of the originally extensive Salzachau near Josefiau)
  • Row of trees at Hans-Sperl-Strasse and Eschenbachgasse (Herrnau)
